IAQA: An ASHRAE Affiliate
In early 2015, the Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA) became an affiliate of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The partnership was seen by both Boards of Directors as beneficial to ASHRAE and IAQA in that it strengthens the programs and services of both organizations. “We are excited about the opportunities presented by this consolidation,” ASHRAE President Tom Phoenix said at the time of the announcement. “It opens the door to alignment of ASHRAE and IAQA programs to create high-impact resources for building professionals around the globe.”
“This is a historic event for both associations and has great promise for growth and development for both organizations,” IAQA President Kent Rawhouser said at the time. “The opportunities and possibilities for members are only limited by our own imaginations. The consolidation will open new avenues for programs and benefits for our membership.”
IAQA’s focus areas complement the efforts of ASHRAE in its standards, research, publications, and educational offerings. The two associations now combine their resources to provide the best indoor air quality technical guidance and educational programs in the industry, which will translate into improved indoor air quality worldwide.
Under the consolidation, IAQA became an affiliate of ASHRAE while maintaining its own brand, strategic direction, and Board of Directors. IAQA operates independently within ASHRAE’s organizational structure.
ASHRAE and IAQA membership remain separate, and there is currently a reciprocal membership discount program in place.
